Guitar music is a thing again (some would argue it never left...). To that we have Jimmy Catlett, a singer- songwriter and guitarist hailing from Richmond Virginia with independent releases on Glass Tube Records and now 50 Pound Records.  Jimmy follows his roots and influences of rock/power pop without a lot of frills but plenty of power. A contrarian to the "latest thing" he writes what's on his mind and invites the listener in to his experiences to create music that leaves a nice, long finish. His current release, "Fever Dream" is the 3rd collaboration with producer Kim Haynie at the helm. An assortment of guest artists bandmates from over the years keep this release fresh and filled with lots catchy melodies and layered guitars  to go with heartfelt vocals that pull you in.  While tough to pin Jimmy down to a genre, he is equally adept at writing within the style of Small Faces, Badfinger & Bowie. You can toss in some Raspberries and Tommy Keene and mix it with a softer, acoustic side into a musical stew that has something for just about everyone.

Jimmy came to Richmond from Louisville, KY and listeners will make that connection with some of the acoustically oriented songs found on "Parlour Music" and "Waiting To Fall Off The Earth". Jimmy was a part of Richmond's boom of artists playing to packed Richmond clubs (remember when the drinking age was 18?), all putting their foot into the water by playing original music and releasing original songs.  He was a member of Dirty Secrets, putting out "Lost and Profound" while playing up and down the east coast, taking advantage of opening slot opportunities for Matthew Sweet, Cheap Trick, The Blasters, Tommy Keene, Pat Travers and others.  From there, Jimmy founded Dumm-Dumms and The Simple Things, each releasing independently on Glass Tube Records. Nat King Kong was another band of local Richmond artists that released "Kong of the Jangle" in the early 2000's that received critical acclaim and airplay on Sirius XM radio. From there,  Jimmy decided to step away from bands and focus his work as a solo artist  and has maintained his approach to deliver independent releases until the present day. Kim Haynie and Kevin Pittman produced his first two solo records, recording at Pittman's home studio and getting engineer and mixing support from longtime Richmond bassist Bob Rupe. The live act frequently packed Shockoe Bottom Clubs with Haynie on drums, Pittman on guitar, vocal and keys and ex Love Tractor founder Armistead Wellford on bass. There is also a guest appearance on "The Big Beat" from Long Ryders and Sky Chiefs guitarist Stephen McCarthy. In addition to all this, Jimmy spent time playing guitar with Richmond legend Bruce Olsen and forming a semi-busking duo with Suzy Saxon, another local fave.

Jimmy's unique ability to effectively crank out a full band show to stripping it down unplugged at solo acoustic gigs in Richmond's Northside ( "No Mic, No Net") are equally enthralling to his loyal audience accumulated over many years in the Richmond music scene. Jimmy's CD release event for "Fever Dream" is on March 7 at 9:00PM at The Northside Grill with the digital release on all streaming outlets on March 18th.
